Peter Besenyei is simply phenomenal – active in the aerobatic scene for nearly 30 years and still one of the best.
National hero
A hobby should always contribute toward a balanced life. If that's true, then Peter Besenyei hit the bull's eye with his hobby: the Hungarian loves to go fishing in his free time. It's impossible to think of a more fitting counterweight to his profession.
In the turbulent world of aerobatics, the pilot with the face of a noble lord has accomplished all that is to be accomplished: multiple Hungarian Champion, two-time winner of the FAI World Grand Prix Series, European Champion, World Champion twice.
And at least since flying under the Budapest Chain Bridge in 2001 – upside down, of course – Peter Besenyei is also a national hero.
Peter participates in eight to ten aerobatics competitions a year. He won yet another the end of August 2005, the 22nd FAI Grand Prix in Lausanne. He can also be seen in ten to 15 air shows across the globe. And recently also in a breath-takingly new kind of athletic competition, the development of which Besenyei had a considerable hand in: the Red Bull Air Race.
In simple terms, the Red Bull Air Race is a race in the air, a combination of auto racing, aerobatics and alpine ski slalom. The best aerobatic pilots in the world can thereby determine in this thickly packed slalom course their most virtuoso, fastest, best pilot.
