When two opponents face each other in the ring, the encounter does not necessarily need to end with black eyes: the best B-Boys in the world competed in the Red Bull BC One duels in Sao Paulo – and crowned their ultimate champion for the next year.

Hong 10 is 21 years old, from South Korea and an amateur photographer. And he is the best B-Boy in the world. Nobody ever doubted the first assertion; the last has been official since November 25. That’s when the multiple UK B-Boy champion won the Red Bull BC One in Sao Paulo, the leading contest for the breakdance elite. Only the best representatives of the most important crews are allowed to take part – and Hong 10 kicked them all out of the competition. For the next year he is allowed to wear the title of the world’s best B-Boy and is convinced: “I will defend it successfully next year too!”

Ambitious moves, clean style

Hong 10’s elevation to B-Boy champion was preceded by a bitter knock-out battle. In front of 1200 fans and the jury consisting of Storm, Rokafella, Junior, Sonic and Andrezinho, he first had to measure himself against the only 15-year-old German Lil Ceng and the Japanese Kaku, improved from round to round with a series of new and increasingly difficult moves – and finally won the final against American Ronnie just before midnight. Mexican Roxrite emerged victorious from the battle for third place against Hong 10’s compatriot The End.

Bad luck for last year's winner

Local hero Muxibinha was responsible for the biggest surprise at the Memorial da America Latina shortly after the evening had begun: the 17-year-old Brazilian eliminated last year’s French winner Lilou from the competition in the preliminary round – and afterwards felt “as though I’d won the whole competition. I’m incredibly proud of having beaten Lilou.”

From insider event to annual highlight

Red Bull BC One first took place in Biel (Switzerland) in 2004; last year’s venue was Berlin, Germany. The commitment of international breakdance crews has made it the world’s leading solo breakdance battle.
