The Red Bull Creativity Contest in Dubai saw 153 artists turn empty Red Bull cans into works of art bursting with creative energy.

The first "Art of can" exhibition in the Middle East was visited by more than 15,000 people within just one week: the artists, the majority of whom were from Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon and Kuwait, used Red Bull cans to create 153 paintings, installations, sculptures, photographs and audiovisual compositions which have been exhibited at Dubai's "Mall of the Emirates" since the beginning of December.

A can on the brink of a nervous breakdown

The three most fascinating works of art - according to the eight-man expert jury - were created by a Libyan and two Filipinos, who won trips to Rome, Paris, London and Salzburg. "Given the array of dazzling ideas to be seen here, I never expected to win," said delighted contest winner Jalal Abuthina. He won the hearts of the jurors with his tale of a cranky Red Bull can who, driven to the brink of a nervous breakdown on an unremarkable day in Dubai, ends up seeing the world from a different perspective. The illustrated book aptly entitled "The AwaCANing" is shown at the exhibition on an LCD screen.

Giving your inspiration wings

Second place in the Red Bull Creativity Contest went to Darwin Guevarra for his 3D multimedia picture "I Saw. I Felt," and third place was awarded to Eduardo Yap for his oversized painting entitled "Red Bull Maniac". But the jury were also "impressed by the humour, imagination and craftsmanship" of the other 150 exhibits - such as robots, bulls, aeroplanes and shoes made of Red Bull cans.

The exhibition, located in the "Galleria - Level 3", is open daily from 10am until 10pm and on weekends from 10am until midnight.
