Castles, town halls, airports, factories: In the past, those wanting to skate at taboo places might have needed to be in possession of compromising naked photos of the local chief of police … But now there’s Red Bull Access All Areas.

That skateboarders can practice their skills anywhere is a matter of importance to our city councils. On every corner they erect inspiring skateboard obstacles, which are gladly used for purposes other than intended in the every day, sure enough. Most of all, tenants of an advanced age maintain that the real purpose of walls and staircases is not for skateboards to grind on, and that the original purpose of steps was not to provide a platform for especially action-filled tricks.

Skating on the freeway

You have to admit, this unfortunate misunderstanding has been adopted by the majority of the population, and skating at most places is not really welcomed. Red Bull Access All Areas, however, opens up the craziest and best-watched spots for the skating community once a year. In conjunction with the local authorities a selected number of skaters are given access to places that no skater would ever dare to tread. And this is how, as part of Red Bull Access All Areas, Austrian skaters slid, ground and ollied on a freeway in 2004, German riders at Berlin-Tempelhof airport in 2005, and Czechs on the busiest bridge in Prague’s inner city in 2006.

The most off-the-wall locations

From mid-May Red Bull Access All Areas will take place in Germany and Austria, following that, in Italy, Columbia, Switzerland, Greece, Venezuela and finally in fall, in Spain. Local riders can make suggestions about their desired locations on the official homepage – the more outlandish the better. More information about the chosen locations, to which between five and ten local riders are invited, can be found on www.redbullaccessallareas.com before each event.
