Finding Mexico’s best skateboarder is the quest of the Red Bull Manchado Tour, which started on July 27 in Cancún. The contestant’s trickiest obstacle: a time limit of 45 seconds to show their stuff ...
“Manchado” – in Mexico, a daredevil, someone with courage and who doesn’t even know how to spell the word “fear.” Mexico’s best skater will be crowned with this title. To become a Red Bull Manchado, however, not only takes the required spirit but some pretty nifty legwork as well. Finding the one to fill the Manchado shoes will take place over the next six weeks in 13 Mexican cities during the Red Bull Manchado Tour.Seeking the Super-Manchado
So that all skaters have an equal opportunity to prove themselves, not only will all obstacles be identical in each city, but each round will be exactly the same wherever it’s held. There’ll be eight heats in each competition, with competitors divided into groups of four and each contestant getting 45 seconds to perform their routine. The two best from each group will pass to the next round – until it’s down to a duel of the two best. The winner of this duel receives a spot in the finals at the Red Bull Manchado Tour in Mexico City.
Defending champion: Barrera
“Every individual round is like a shot of adrenalin into the heart,” raves Max Barrera, no less talented in poetic formulation than in sliding and grinding. Last year the 27-year-old won the first-ever Manchado tour, the final of which took place in front of the Revolution Monument in Mexico City after stops in eleven cities. The Red Bull Manchado Tour 2007 began on July 27 in Cancún and finishes on September 2 in Mexico City.
