Kilian Fischhuber secured the overall victory at the Boulder World Cup as early as the end of June. He’s just finished the season with great success, garnering a second place in the finals in Brno, Czech Republic. In connection with that, the Austrian crimped his way through our A-to-Z wordrap.
Acrophobia: A natural feeling that you can come to grips with.
Brno: A fantastic end to a successful World Cup season.
Consistency: My most important performance attribute.
Drum’n’Bass: Ideal music for an evening in the climbing gym.
8c: In 2004 I flashed my first 8c. That was a small milestone in my climbing career.
Fingers: Climbers’ most important instruments, which really need to be looked after. Unfortunately mine are a bit fragile, but I’ve gotten over my most recent injury.
Goal: Topping out at a huge event like the EC or WC.
Highball: Bring a fresh pair of underpants with you.
Idol: Anyone who creates a real life out of their wishes and dreams.
Joy: Professionalism also means that training is not just pure enjoyment.
Key to success: My consistency.
Lead: Very important to me, although the successes to date haven’t been so great. I want to make big improvements in this area!
Motivation: The deciding factor in climbing.
Nervousness: Helps to focus and makes you aware what’s really important.
Overall victory: My goal in recent and in future years.
Popularity: I’m really happy to have made it into the top 15 in Austria at the sports awards 2007. Not out of vanity, but because it shows that our sport is being taken more seriously than it used to be.
Quickdraws: I hang about one thousand a year.
Rock: Let there be rock! The most essential thing for climbing.
Success: Not only a good result but also coming back after an injury or when you’ve managed a tough route.
Teacher: Want to become one when my sporting career is over. The reason I’m studying sport and English.
Unclimbable: There are some places you don’t need to climb.
Vertical: Not to be underestimated: flat routes can also be tough.
Wish: To continue as successfully as I have up to now.
Xmas: Will be celebrated at home with my family. We sing loud and out of tune.
Ybbs: Where my roots are. I went to school in Waidhofen an der Ybbs.
Zero gravity: Despite Red Bull, gravity will always win at some point!
